Q: I already have a domain. What do I need to do so that AdvisorSites can host my web site?

A: There are two possibilities:

If you are not currently using your domain for a website or email:
Transfer your domain to AdvisorSites. See "How do I transfer my domain to AdvisorSites?"

If you are already using your domain for a website or email:
If you want AdvisorSites to host your domain, wait until your new website is ready to go "live", then follow the instructions below to transfer your domain.

If you don't want AdvisorSites to host your domain, contact your current domain host and request "A-records" (pointers) from your domain to the AdvisorSites Web server. You will need our server's IP Address: 69.18.153.50

Q: How do I register a domain using Network Solutions?

A: Go to the Network Solutions website at www.networksolutions.com

  • Enter the domain name you would like to register. Click Search.
  • If the domain is available, click Continue.
  • If AdvisorSites will be providing your email and website, ignore the option to purchase these services from Network Solutions. Click Continue.
  • Review your order. Click Proceed to Purchase when you're ready.
  • Log in or create a new account with NetworkSolutions as necessary.
  • When your order is complete, print your receipt. It will be your only record of the User ID and Password for your domain.

Q: I received a domain registration renewal from a company other than Network Solutions. What should I do?

A: If AdvisorSites registered your domain, do not renew your domain with any registry other than Network Solutions or Verisign. If you registered the domain yourself, then only renew your domain with the registrar you used. Some disreputable registry companies send out emails or letters that look like invoices for renewing your domain. Unless you read the fine print, it sounds like you need to renew your domain with them. In reality they are trying to get you to transfer your domain to their servers so that you become their customer. A particularly frequent abuser is Domain Registry of America, (click to see an example).

Q: How do I find out when my domain registration expires?

A: A "whois" record contains important information about your domain, including your expiration date.

  • Click here to access the Network Solutions whois search.
  • Type in your domain (without www.) and click the Search button.
  • On the search result page, look for the words "expires on". You don't have to renew until just before that date. Failure to renew a domain may result in the permanent loss of your web address. Click here for domain renewal instructions for Network Solutions.

Q: How do I transfer my domain to AdvisorSites?

A: To transfer your domain, simply change your Domain Name Servers (DNS) through your registrar's Account Manager. We also recommend making AdvisorSites your Technical Contact for the domain.    Enter AdvisorSites' DNS Servers:

  • Primary Server: APIDNS2.ADVISORPRODUCTS.COM
  • Secondary Server: NS1.ADVISORSITES.NET
  • Network Solutions customers, click here for step-by-step instructions.

Make AdvisorSites your Technical Contact (Network Solutions only):

  • Enter AdvisorSites' NIC handle: EAJQJMZDHO
  • Click here for more information from Network Solutions' web site.
